What are Venture Scouts?

Venture Scouts are for young people, aged 15 to 17 (~3rd to 5th year), who are ready to take Scouting to the next level — with more independence, challenge, and adventure.

Ventures design, plan, and lead their own programme, supported by their Scouters. The emphasis is on teamwork, personal growth, and discovering your own potential through real-world experiences.

Venturers take full ownership of what they do — from planning expeditions to managing budgets and logistics. They decide the adventures they want to pursue and make them happen, developing leadership, confidence, and self-reliance along the way.

What do Ventures do?

Venture Scouts meet weekly to plan, prepare, and enjoy the adventures they’ve chosen. Their activities are as varied as their imaginations — from local community projects to international expeditions.

Outdoor Expeditions

Venturers love the outdoors — taking on mountain hikes, survival challenges, and multi-day treks that test endurance and teamwork.

Water Activities

From kayaking and sailing to raft building and coastal expeditions, Ventures dive into water-based adventures with skill and confidence.

Camps & Expeditions

Venturers organise their own camps — from weekend escapes to two-week expeditions at home or abroad — gaining practical experience in planning, budgeting, and leadership.

Community Service

Venturers give back through meaningful projects that support their local community and promote active citizenship.

What else do Ventures do?

International Opportunities

Adventure doesn’t stop at Ireland’s borders — Venturers often travel overseas for camps, exchanges, and global Scouting events.

National Events

Venturers take part in exciting national events such as Ventact, Scout Fest, Mountain Havoc, and Venture Challenge, meeting others from across the country and pushing their limits.

Social & Personal Development

Beyond the adventure, Venturers enjoy a great social scene and grow through the S.P.I.C.E.S. framework — developing socially, physically, intellectually, character-wise, emotionally, and spiritually.

Camp Competitions

Train for and compete in camping competitions such as the National Venture Sword.

Where we meet

We typically meet in Blackwater Church Carpark from 7 - 8.30pm on Fridays during school term.
When the weather is bad or we need to work indoors, we may meet at Blackwater Parish Hall.
Occasionally we may meet at other locations for special events or activities - this will always be communicated in advance via the parents' WhatsApp group.
